The vivacious Argentinean man who runs this hostal is expanding downstairs, in the process doubling his space to 19 rooms. Four rooms have balconies that overlook Fuencarral, a trendy street strung with designer clothing shops leading all the way to Chueca.
The feel of Colors Hostal directly reflects the owner's excited spirit. "There's going to be lots and lots of color! So much color!" the owner told us while giving a tour of the new space, which was gutted during our visit.
Colors is one of our favorites in a city known for its reasonable rates and guest services. There's even a mini-fridge in each room so guests can take midnight snacks into their rooms.
Punchy decor, hardware, and multicolored bedding are bought at Ikea—and they look it. Breakfast bars and bottled water are treats. Private baths and flat-screen TVs provide the added kicker. There's also free Wi-Fi, as well as a free Internet at reception.
And for that added frisson of irony before moving on, it turns out that the owner of Colors is colorblind.
