The Hostal Cruz-Sol has it all—rock-bottom prices, comfy rooms, and a cool and convenient location (It overlooks the Plaza de Santa Cruz and is just a minute from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor). Though only a two-star hostal, the Cruz-Sol filled with the kinds of amenities that you'd pay much more for elsewhere.
Aurora, the owner, showed us around with a smile—it was contagious. Though the Cruz-Sol's 17 rooms aren't the most spacious, they are all freshly renovated and attractively decorated. Curtains and bedding draw from a cheerful palette, and the wood furniture has a countryside charm. Fifteen rooms face either the lovely Plaza Santa Cruz or the Calle Esparteros, and most of these have small wrought-iron balconies.
