Across the street from the train station, Hotelissimo Haberstock stands at the foot of Schillerstrasse, a street crowded with hotels. The further one gets from the train station, the seedier Schillerstrasse gets. However, at the Haberstock end, things still feel mighty touristy.
Hotelissimo Haberstock's co-owner, Heinrich Haitzmann, gave us a personal tour of the hotel. At first glance, the lobby doesn't appear to be up to much. Furniture (mid-twentieth-century modern knock-offs) and artworks (brightly hued paintings) alike appear to have gone up in a slapdash fashion.
But the rooms are quite a treat. All of the Haberstock's rooms are outfitted with work desks, comfortable box spring beds and private bathrooms. The vast majority of the rooms have double doors to protect guests from hallway noise. Renovated in 2003, rooms are outfitted in subdued floral window curtains and neutral shades. The appeal is understated. Haberstock's bright ground-floor breakfast salon, with its wall of street-side windows, will egg you on to an activity-packed day. As an added benefit, Haberstock welcomes pets, charging just €5 per pooch or kitty.
