Baronesse My Secret Home is a sister property to the decidedly less impressive Aviano. Remaking the tired Viennese style prevalent in so many properties in the city and modernizing it, the Baronesse's sleek rooms in the heart of charming Josefstadt are some of our favorites.
This part of Josefstadt is home to the Rathaus and is decidedly residential, but it isn't far from the Innere Stadt (a 10-minute walk, or a quick U-Bahn ride).
The Baronesse's 39 rooms include eight ground floor recently renovated rooms. Throughout, the white bed frames and desks, the parquet floors, and the red satin chairs feel like the Viennese style on steroids. Renovated rooms are more modern and include flat-screen televisions and large bathrooms with swoopy modern fixtures. However, a few rooms upstairs have postage-stamp sized balconies overlooking Lange Gasse, which makes for a hard choice. All rooms have wireless and cable television, though the hotel does skimp on toiletries.
There are quite a few additional touches that you won't find elsewhere, including free bicycles for guest use and portable GPS systems to carry on walks or bike rides.
For a four-star property, the Baronesse is an excellent deal, even if it is a splurge for us Cheapos.
